Boulder festivals by season
Every festival below was checked against the organizer's own site. That check found four dead web addresses in the official printed guide and two organizers that have quietly renamed.

Every date, price and link checked against the organizer on August 3, 2026
Boulder runs something most weekends of the year, and 14 of the 24 festivals below cost nothing to walk into. What follows is organized by season, with the same discipline as the rest of this site: a real date where the organizer publishes one, a real price where there is one, and a plain admission where there is not.
Winter (December to February)

What the check turned up
This page exists because the printed guide is out of date in ways a visitor would only discover after typing an address that goes nowhere.
Four addresses in the printed guide do not resolve
- tulipfairyfest.com is dead. The Tulip Fairy and Elf Festival is run by Downtown Boulder Partnership.
- r2dance.org is dead. The company is T2 Dance, at t2dance.org.
- jlffest.org is dead. The Jaipur Literature Festival is at jlflitfest.org.
- sanssoucifest.org is dead. Sans Souci is at sanssoucifestival.org.
Two organizers have renamed
- Boulder Roots Music Fest is now Tulagi. Same festival, new brand for 2026.
- Out Boulder is now Rocky Mountain Equality, after merging with the Longmont and Loveland LGBTQ nonprofits. PrideFest is on their site.
One festival we cannot confirm is still running
Festival del Sol has no 2026 date on Chautauqua's own event page, and its usual September slot has passed. Its last confirmed edition was the fifth, in September 2025. We have left it on this page, marked unconfirmed, rather than either dropping it or implying it is going ahead.
Sundance arrives in 2027
The Sundance Film Festival relocates to Boulder for its 2027 edition, January 21 to 31, 2027, using the Boulder Theater, Chautauqua Auditorium, the Dairy Arts Center, Cinemark and local school auditoriums. It is not in the tables above because it is not a Boulder festival yet.
It has already moved things around, which is the useful part for planning: the Boulder International Film Festival shifted its own 2026 dates later, out of its long-standing March slot, to stay clear of it. If you are planning a film trip for 2027, those are now two separate journeys rather than one.
Common questions
How many Boulder festivals are actually free?
14 of the 24 on this page are free to attend, including Bands on the Bricks every Wednesday in summer, the Pearl Street Arts Fest, Open Studios, Munchkin Masquerade and the Boulder Creek Festival. Free here means free to walk in. Boulder Creek Festival is free but its beer fest is a separate ticket, and Winterfest is free to enter with paid add-ons, and both are marked that way in the tables.
Is the Sundance Film Festival in Boulder?
Not yet. Sundance relocates to Boulder for its 2027 edition, running January 21 to 31, 2027, at venues including the Boulder Theater, Chautauqua Auditorium, the Dairy Arts Center and Cinemark. Anything describing it as a current Boulder festival is ahead of itself. Boulder's own film festival, BIFF, moved its dates later in the year to avoid clashing with it.
Which festivals have confirmed dates right now?
Most of them. The exceptions are honest gaps rather than oversights: Chautauqua has not published Winterfest's 2026 dates in a form we can verify, the Versatility Dance Festival has not set a 2027 date, BIFF has not announced 2027, and Festival del Sol has no 2026 date at all despite its usual September slot having passed.
Why do some links here differ from the printed visitors guide?
Because four of the web addresses printed in that guide do not resolve. The Tulip Fairy and Elf Festival, the Versatility Dance Festival, the Jaipur Literature Festival and Sans Souci all appear there with domains that are dead or wrong. Every link on this page was opened and checked on August 3, 2026. Two organizers have also renamed: Boulder Roots Music Fest now goes by Tulagi, and Out Boulder is now Rocky Mountain Equality.
What is the single best weekend for a first visit?
Memorial Day weekend does the most work: the Boulder Creek Festival runs free along the creek for four days and the BolderBoulder 10K finishes inside Folsom Field on the Monday. If you would rather have music than crowds, any Wednesday between June 10 and July 29 gets you Bands on the Bricks for nothing.
