Thirteen places in and around Boulder that genuinely teach adults, with what each one charges, whether you can try a single class, and whether you need to bring somebody.
Every studio below teaches adults as a real part of what it does, so you
won't turn up to find yourself in a children's school with one grown-up class
tacked on the end. Each row answers the three questions that decide whether
you actually go: what it costs, whether you can try a single class before
committing, and whether you need to bring a partner.
If you want to try one class for free or nearly free
Four genuinely low-risk starting points, in order of how little you have to
commit. Boulder Ballet gives new students a free first
class. Colorado Conservatory of Dance also makes the first
class free, and after that charges $10 for a 30 minute class, which is the
cheapest technique instruction we found anywhere. A contra dance from the Colorado Friends of Old Time Music and
Dance (CFOOTMAD) opens with a free lesson, needs no partner and no
registration, and rotates partners all night, so arriving alone is the norm
rather than the exception. Boulder Ecstatic Dance has no
choreography to learn at all and runs on a $20 to $30 sliding scale.
Every adult dance option, checked
Prices were read off each studio's own website on August 7, 2026. Where a
studio doesn't publish its rates, the table says so rather than repeating a
figure from a review site.

The cheapest structured technique class in this whole survey, and the free first class has no catch attached. The address is the catch: their page is titled 'near Boulder' and their studio is in Broomfield.

UNCONFIRMED whether someone with no CU affiliation can enroll, and at what added membership cost. Their membership page wasn't reachable when we checked. Worth a call to 303-492-6880, because if the answer is yes this is the best value on the page.

If a published price matters to you, start elsewhere. If personalized ballroom instruction matters more, this is the ballroom specialist in town.
One building holds up most of Boulder's partner dancing
The Avalon Ballroom at 6185 Arapahoe Avenue is where the
contra dances, the Wednesday tango class, and much of the salsa and bachata
social scene all happen, on different nights, run by different organizations
that don't share a calendar. If you're looking for partner dancing in
Boulder and only check one address, check that one. No single operator's
website shows you the whole week there, which is a genuine gap we would like
to fill.
Three studios that are gone, or appear to be
All three still surface as open Boulder businesses on at least one listing
site, which is exactly the kind of thing this site exists to catch.
Kinesis Dance. The domain now redirects to a 'coming soon' placeholder under the name Frequency Dance. A long-running Boulder studio that taught adult ballet, tap and contemporary. Whether this is a closure or a rebrand is genuinely unclear, so we aren't calling it either.
Vertical Fusion. Their own site now lists only Fort Collins and Longmont. The Boulder pole and aerial studio appears to have closed, though aggregators still list it as a Boulder business.
A Place To B. Belly dance and martial arts. The most recent content on their own site dates to 2013, and the newest award cited is from 2008. Treat as unmaintained at best.
What we couldn't confirm
Four studios don't publish their prices at all: Streetside Dance, Boulder
Swing Dance, Arthur Murray, and Salsaville for its group classes. We also
couldn't confirm street addresses for Tribe Nawaar or Boulder Swing Dance,
nor whether a non-CU resident can register for CU's $55 series. A handful of
smaller operators, including Lemon Sponge Cake Contemporary Ballet, Hamsa
Arts, BOCO Flamenco and Beledi Dance Caravan, either block automated
requests or have no site of their own, so we couldn't verify them and have
left them off rather than guess.
A pattern worth knowing: several small single-instructor operations here are
genuinely still teaching while their websites sit years out of date. An old
copyright line at the bottom of a page isn't proof a teacher has stopped.
Call before you write one off.
